Rev. Thomas Hall, Interim Senior Minister Rev. Hall hails from New Hampshire. He attended Yale Divinity School and earned a Master's Degree in Public Relations. He has served several churches, both as senior pastor and as interim minister. He most recently was the interim minister for Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ in Billings, Montana. In 2003 he earned the Just Peace award from the Rocky Mountain Conference (UCC). Rev. Hall's philosophy is that all pastors are interims; it's the congregation that stays in place. He views his role as that of a coach and will bring a collegial style acting as a mentor, trusting in the leadership of the congregation and the staff.

Rev. William O. Smith, Founding Minister, Minister Emeritus Rev. Smith's journey began in Conway, Missouri, where his bigger picture of life was first born and nurtured. He graduated from Drury College in 1953 and received his Master of Theology from Southern Methodist University in 1956. Rev. Smith served several churches in Missouri before arriving in Arizona in 1958 to start a new church, Cross Roads Methodist. In 1973, history repeated itself when Rev. Smith and a group of visionary faith pioneers founded Shadow Rock. Rev. Smith is a person who has always asked "why not?" The results of these "why nots" have included experimental educational alternatives; a comprehensive music, arts, and theater program; a deep commitment to the interfaith community; as well as redefinition of other traditional ministries within the church. His bigger picture of the world is one that images the Church as a signal of hope to the larger community. This understanding has been transmitted in two ways: preaching the Word of possibility to help people realize that every member of the human family wants their lives to make a difference; and secondly, by encouraging people to involve their own lives in issues and concerns that have potential for improving the quality of life for all people. Rev. Smith received the Maricopa County Bar Associations "Distinguished Public Service Award" for his work on behalf of the young and underprivileged; was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Drury College, his alma mater; established the Mail Carriers Food Drive which has become a national program; created the "Back-To-School Clothing Drive;" started the North Phoenix Corporate Ministry; founded A Stepping Stone Foundation; received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Phoenix Union High School for service to inner city youth; received the annual award from the Phoenix B'nai B'rith women for "dedication to the cause of human dignity" to name a few of his accomplishments and recognitions. |
