Lois Beberniss is the office administrator and also functions as the assistant to the ministers. She manages the calendar, the office, assists with Caring Ministries, works closely with each staff person, and is the liaison to the History Team. Lois joined Shadow Rock at the very beginning when services were held at Thunderbird High School and later became a Shadow Rock Preschool teacher. She joined the staff in 2001 and sees Shadow Rock as her extended family. Originally from Iowa, she and husband Dennis have two children and two grandchildren.

 

Susan Wadell is the Director of Education, but don't let that title fool you! She oversees children and family programming, is liaison to the Children's Education Team and the Shadow Rock Preschool, works with the ministers and music director in planning the worship services, and so much more. Susan began with Shadow Rock as a preschool teacher and joined the staff in 1992. Originally from Iowa, Susan and her husband Jerry have two grown children.

 

Sharon Thurman works full time splitting her time between managing the campus facilities, overseeing the custodians, and teaching preschool. She has been with Shadow Rock since its very beginning and knows where everything is! Originally from Wisconsin, Sharon and her husband Weldon have four children.

 

Brian Gruhn joined the staff in August 2005 and is the full-time Youth Director.  Brian comes to us from Sierra Vista, Arizona, where he was the Youth Advisor for Sierra Vista UCC as well as a high school teacher.  In the summer of 2005 he was the Assistant Camp Director for the Southwest Conference of the UCC.

 

Bob Mundy has been a member of Shadow Rock for many years and recently joined the staff as the liaison to the Local-Global team and to the Adult Education team.  Bob is also a REALTOR and he and his wife Pattie have a grown daughter.

 

Dena Covey joined the staff in August 2001 and is the editor of the monthly Pebble, maintains our website, and is our computer/technical liaison.  Originally from Illinois, Dena and her husband have three school-aged children. Dena also works full time for the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department.

 

Kim Evangelist has been the Membership Secretary since 2002. She maintains the membership database, coordinates Let's Find Out information sessions, and send out information to those requesting more information about Shadow Rock. Originally from Minnesota, Kim and her partner are raising a school-aged son.

 

Cindy Parnell, a Phoenix native, has worked part time as our wedding coordinator for two years.

 

Heidi Zinn, Interim Financial Secretary joined the staff in 2004 and has been the Interim Finance Secretary since October of 2006.  Before that she worked on special projects as needed.  Heidi graduated from NAU with honors receiving her BSBAD in Finance.  She and her husband Ken have two school age children.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and scrapbooking.

 

Marilyn Rampley is co-director of the Shadow Rock preschool and works closely with the other preschool co-director Sharon Torrella. Together, they play with over 200 children, twenty-three teachers, and thirty or so board members. Marilyn is also a charter member of Shadow Rock and has been involved in the life of our church since 1973. Originally from Michigan and New Mexico, Marilyn is married to Greg and they have two married children. In addition to the many preschool children she considers 'family' she also plays with her five grandchildren whenever she gets the chance.

 

Sharon Torrella is co-director of the Shadow Rock preschool and works closely with the other co-director, Marilyn Rampley, many children, parents, teachers, and preschool board members. Originally from Indiana, Sharon and her husband Carlos have two grown children and two grandchildren. She has been with the preschool, as a parent, teacher, and now director, for twenty-seven years.
