"I believe faith is a human universal. We are endowed at birth with nascent capacities for faith. How these capacities are activated and grow depends to a large extent on how we are welcomed into the world and what kinds of environments we grow in. Faith is interactive and social; it requires community, language, ritual and nurture." (James W. Fowler, Stages of Faith)

Shadow Rock is very intentional in developing and delivering curriculum and experiences that impact our children. Shadow Rock Church's education program is Biblically-based, grounded in theological scholarship, believing God is still speaking. The Bible can be thought of as God's search for humans and the human search for God. This is a search for meaning and purpose. Where did we come from? Why are we here? What are we supposed to do?
The Bible (both the Hebrew and Christian Testaments) tells the story of this search by people who lived a long time ago. The Christian scriptures tell of Jesus Christ whose life and teachings provide the basis for the Christian religion to which we adhere. It is important to our faith for us to know these timeless stories for they describe all aspects of the human condition and help us answer these questions. The story of God's and human's search for one another is not over. We continue that search as we live with one another and explore the meaning and purpose of our own lives.
The programs offered by Shadow Rock are biblically based, not dogmatic theology, but faith exploration and experiences. Children are nourished and nurtured in an atmosphere of love and care. We invite you to join us as we explore our faith stories, listen for God speaking and live out God's message of acceptance, love and justice.
Sunday Enrichment Hour (Sunday School) 9:10 a.m.
Join us in A Journey of Discovery, a seven year plan based on the Shadow Rock Covenant and our faith understandings. This curriculum designed for children preschool age through sixth grade utilizes the rotation method, addressing learning styles, for K-6 and self-contained classrooms for preschoolers. Each unit speaks to a portion of our covenant and explores the "faith truths" illustrated by a specific Bible story.

Rock the World:
Transforming Children to Transform the World

Preschoolers through fourth graders gather in community on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays (during the school year) from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., to sing together, share a meal together, enjoy fellowship together and work to create a just and loving world - actively living out The Word About Life. Our faith understanding calls us to embrace the joys and injustices experienced by all of our brothers and sisters - each and every one a child of God - that is, we are called to live a life of spiritual substance. With Shadow Rock curriculum as a foundation our imaginations soar as we experience how we can live out our faith understandings.
Alternative Rocks
All 5th and 6th graders are invited each week to join us Wednesday afternoons (during the school year) from 4:30-6:30 p.m. as we learn more about ourselves and our world through personal growth, mission, stewardship, and fellowship experiences. The evening includes activity, music and a shared meal. At least once a month there is a special activity planned in addition to the weekly Wednesday time together.
The Growing Place/Preschool Growing Place
This is an alternative to attending worship service for preschoolers and children kindergarten through second grade. These programs offer loving care and activities. Not a substitute for the lessons of the Enrichment Hour, but value stories and lessons are explored.
Summer Programs
We are all God's children. As we strive to create a world of peace and justice, Shadow Rock offers experiences that deepen our understandings. Whether it is our Earthlings program (a multi-cultural experience) or Marketplace (a recreation of Biblical times) or a celebration of creation, the children celebrate all it means to be a child of God!
