Our Minister

Rev. Ken Heintzelman
Senior Minister

Pastor Ken was called to serve Shadow Rock by the congregation in May 2008 and began with us in July 2008.
He earned a B.S. Degree in Philosophy from Murray State University and a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School.  Ken’s journey has allowed him many different work experiences that include hospital chaplaincy, social work, management of non-profit organizations, casework with persons with mental illness and persons with the challenges of poverty and homelessness.  He has served three churches since 1988 and is grateful for his career path, the skills he has learned, and the people he has met along the way.  Ken and his wife Peg have three adult children, Joshua (who recently married Lauren), Amelia, and Daniel.

Rev. William O. Smith
Founding Minister, Minister Emeritus

In 1973, Rev. Smith and a group of visionary faith pioneers founded Shadow Rock.
Rev. Smith is a person who has always asked "why not?" The results of these "why nots" have included experimental educational alternatives; a comprehensive music, arts, and theater program; a deep commitment to the interfaith community; as well as redefinition of other traditional ministries within the church. His bigger picture of the world is one that images the Church as a signal of hope to the larger community. This understanding has been transmitted in two ways: preaching the Word of possibility to help people realize that every member of the human family wants their lives to make a difference; and secondly, by encouraging people to involve their own lives in issues and concerns that have potential for improving the quality of life for all people.Rev. Smith retired in 1994 but his legacy lives on through our preschool, through A Stepping Stone Foundation, and through the Rev. William O. and Ann Smith Scholarship awarded each year to a Shadow Rock senior(s) in high school.
