Milestones

I will be sending two letters out to the congregation this month.  Each letter represents an important milestone in our ministry together.  The first milestone is getting to the place of a balanced budget and the second has to do with re-instating a contemporary theology course. 

Balancing the budget.  What a surprise the church has its hand out, AGAIN!  Yes, the church has its hand out, again, and without apology. An extended hand is a hand that can receive as well as give.  An extended hand is a conduit by which much is received and much is given.

Liberal Biased Media!  Really?

During the Super Bowl there will be an ad sponsored by Focus on the Family.  The content of the ad, "   ... celebrates a woman who ignored medical advice to have an abortion. The fact that the ad will air on Super Bowl Sunday and that the child she delivered is a football star makes it all the more insidious.

Journey of the Spirit is coming for Shadow Rock

In his book, Falling in “Love with Mystery” Richard Elliott writes about Spirituality as “the dynamic in our lives which enables us to relate in a healthy fashion to the full reality of our situation.”

Wedding Discussion Last Night

What a great people!  What a great congregation!

 Last night we had a conversation about the Wedding Statement” (see previous blog titled Weddings). The discussion went very well and led to a heightened awareness of the relationship between politics and faith.

Weddings from a Shadow Rock Perspective

There are several challenges related to weddings.

  • Weddings are viewed more and more as private and secular family events.
  • The church buildings are seen and used as “wedding chapels” without regard of the congregations that sustain the buildings and what the congregations stand for.
  • A consumer mentality drives a couple’s relationship with the “church” they wish to use for their wedding.
