Profound Journey Dialog Additional Resources

You may wish to learn more about our Profound Journey than is possible within the short time we are able to journey together.  These materials are here for the interested person to further develop a sense of their own personal journey and what it means for them individually and to the world around them.

Historically, the Profound Journey Dialog was an exploration of a few papers written by modern theologians of the mid-20th century.  Since that time, further understandings have lead to the current form of the PJD and its emphasis on the significance and universality of our journeys regardless of our individual religious training or theological background.  These four papers, written by thoughtful men of their day, may provide some additional insight into the nature of our journey and our relationship to each other and the world as a whole.  While they may be somewhat dated in language (forming one of the reasons for developing the current PJD), they, nonetheless, provide an historical context for the Profound Journey Dialog events as they exist today.

In the original course, the essay, "The Crisis of Faith" by Rudolf Bultmann, was the foundational document for the first session.  Paul Tillich's paper, "You Are Accepted", was the basis for the second session.  The third and fourth sessions were derived from Dietrich Bonhoeffer's essay on "Freedom", and H. Richard Niebuhr's essay, "The Responsibility of the Church for Society" respectively.
